Who is Groggery?

Groggery (born Gregory) and better know as Greg, was born and remains in Victoria, B.C. Still renowned for its temperate climate and as the “city of gardens”, Victoria is also emerging as a worthy craft beer destination. Groggery graduated from UVic with a History/English degree and wrote his final history paper on the early brewing culture in Victoria and why beer flourished here. That’s enough third person I think. You might say Groggery (me) continues quenching his thirst for beer history in the city of gardens to this day.

My partner and I love to travel. When on the road our appreciation for the local beer and food culture often lends a hand in building our itineraries. I’ve enjoyed many beer adventures around the Pacific North West, and have also been fortunate enough to backpack Europe several times, Australia, and escape to sunny Maui and Palm Springs. Not presently employed in ‘the industry’, I enjoy dipping a toe so to speak with my participation with The Campaign for Real Ale (www.camra.ca), and can now channel my inner Theroux and Hemingway on this modest page as well.

For better or worse I don’t just travel and drink. Yes the PNW is a mecca for amazing beer, but it is also a wonderland for outdoor pursuits. In addition to being a terrible golfer and a passionate (yet also terrible) soccer player, I found my calling in all things running. I currently enjoy competing in almost any discipline from road 5k’s to mountainous 50k’s and has run the Victoria Marathon for the past 3 years. I’d like to start combining future travels with more running races AND beer adventuring, but in the meantime my posts will be split between the two.
